please save me from my to-do list

Does anyone else have the perpetual habit of adding unnecessary tasks to their already extremely long to-do list? To the point where you know it's a bad idea but you just can't stop your hands from typing/writing things down? Allow me to playback the last conversation that went on through my head while driving to work today:

WHAT?!?!?! Who does this?!?!?! I go to cross one thing off the list and end up with 10 more tasks in its place. I'm a cutter by way of my to-do list. And what really kills me the most? I don't actually have to do any of this stuff. Ok, maybe clean up my apartment. It is looking a little gross. But other than that, nothing else should really have a spot on the list. Nothing. My bedroom looks fine. The lamp and nightstand are fine. The whole setup? Completely fine. But for some reason, they continue to show up. I pause for one second at work and BOOM. At least two more things on my to-do list. I'm heading home for the day and WHAM. At least four more suddenly appear. It's to the point where I have 7 different to-do lists (categorized per room/theme, duh) with 71 items listed. Yep, you heard me. Seventy. One.

Another fun fact about my to-do list is that I rarely check anything off. I add it, I make all these unrealistic plans to knock everything out and then I spend the rest of the time either 1) making up excuses for why I can't complete it or 2) looking at the list and thinking "man, I really should get on that". It's sick I tell you. S-I-C-K.

Take today. I tasked myself with 10 (TEN!!) different tasks despite having volleyball games at 7:25 and 8:25 tonight (both about an hour long). And it's not even like they're quick and easy or in dire need of completion:

Condense accessories on dresser?!?! What does that even mean?!?!

Which brings me back to the original question asked at the beginning of this post:

Does anyone else have the perpetual habit of adding unnecessary tasks to their already extremely long to-do list?

And, as if my long winded rant doesn't clue you in enough, I'd also like to know:

Do you have any tips or tricks for maintaining a realistic to-do list and preventing you from wanting to pull your hair out?

Consider this my SOS.

buried in projects.

Heyo, how's it hanging? Everyone have a good weekend? Awesome, me too. Although I'll have to admit it wasn't as productive as I hoped. Probably something to do with over serving myself on Saturday night. Urgh.

I did however, get a sense of just how cut throat I am when it comes to cleaning out other people's closet. I'm worse than Simon Cowell back when American Idol was entertaining. Absolutely ruthless. I laugh, I throw away, I make you give it up... I don't know what comes over me. So if you have thick skin, are in desperate need of a closet cleansing and willing to sign a piece of paper that confirms we'll stay friends when it's all over, I'm your gal. I'll even come up with some new outfits you can add to your arsenal of awesomeness.
On top of being mean sometimes, I'm knee deep in a few painting projects I can't wait to share with you. Later. They've prevented me from doing this week's Moodboard Monday which I'm actually thinking about switching to Tuesday even though it doesn't sound as good. I'm finally ready to admit that Sunday is, in fact, my "lazy day" and I'd rather stick a fork in my eyeball than actually accomplish anything besides watching TV, eating and playing Sudoku. While I absolutely despise the fact that I'm pushing something back because I'm such a slug, I realize I need to buck up and get real with it. Plus, I can't continue to come up with an excuse every Monday on why my Monday Moodboard isn't done on time. I'm an awful liar and not that imaginative.

So since I don't really have anything to share on this blog, I thought I'd push you over to some other ones that do. Happy Monday and make it a great week!

1. A ridiculously adorable little girl's room on style files. Seriously, this big girl wants one for herself.

2. A delicate and dainty Lauren Moffatt collection on more design please.

3. A top knot spectacular courtesy of tulip louise. Jen, this is what we were talking about!

4. The basket I want to make for pup's toys on design sponge. Of course I'll probably jazz it up a little bit.

5. An Est Magazine sneak preview on desire to inspire. Of course I'm in love - it's the Scandinavian edition.

new year, new start

Hey everyone! Remember us? Kate? And Ruby?

Sure you do.

We weren't gone that long.

I am P-U-M-P-E-D about this new year as I've got some big plans for myself and this blog. Plans that include new projects, mood boards, travel, savings, an iPad, relocation, perhaps some cable... Well, probably not cable but you get the point. I'm going big time and, after spending the last two days being a giant slug, I can't wait to get started.

While New Years Eve is probably the most overrated holiday of the year, I can't help but wake up the next day and breathe a sigh of relief. Relief that it's a new year. A clean slate. A fresh start. It's during this time you can take everything you did you weren't exactly proud of, toss it off a cliff and move on. Where you can take all the dreams and goals you've ever had for yourself and figure out how to make them a reality. Where you can forgive all those that have hurt you over the years and give them the same second chance you're planning on giving yourself. I don't care if it's the cornball way of looking at things, these thoughts are what keep me happy and forever optimistic about the future.

And speaking of fresh starts, I received a truckload of presents over Christmas that will help me do just that. Here's a sneak peek at the kind of loot I'm talking about and my way of wishing you good fortune in 2012. Stay tuned and looking forward to what this year brings!
