make it pretty: quiet place

logo, photography and styling by Corrin Acome

tip: Grab a pretty pebble from each beach or calming place you've visited. Display them in holders with lots of compartments (vintage knobs, egg holders, etc.) to remind yourself to relax and stay calm.

make it pretty: something sweet

You'll notice I don't have a contribution for these next few challenges. This is because I'm an idiot and corrupted my CompactFlash card for my camera and have to buy a new one.

Moral of the story: It is no urban myth CompactFlash cards can become corrupt by not properly ejecting them from your computer. The warning is true and you should listen to it very carefully.

make it pretty: celebration

logo, photography and styling by Corrin Acome

photography and styling by change of scenery

tip: I think a celebration can be found in anything that has positive energy. Whether it's by wrapping paper masks around some ordinary vases or framing snapshots of your travels and fondest memories, make sure to surround yourself with things that make you smile.

make it pretty: ingredients

photography and styling by change of scenery

tip: I can't believe I'm saying this but ... embrace "white space". Not every single corner of every single space needs to be occupied. This draws the eye in toward the subject and creates a natural landscape that makes compositions so interesting.

TEAMWORK.

tip: With little kids, animals are your best friend. They look cute, are great learning tools and provide hours of fun. The alphabet was done with stencils and acrylic paint on canvas. The animals were done with stencils, scrapbooking paper and decoupage on canvas. The initials were done with buttons and hot glue on canvases.

make it pretty: shoes

photography and styling by change of scenery

tip: Ok, I need help with organizing my shoes, guys. They're in mounds, in this ugly thing attached to my door, just everywhere! Condensing is not an option but I'm not sure what else to do. I kind of like the idea of putting shoes in a drawer - maybe flip flops or something - which would hide some of the catastrophe I call my shoe collection.

But as far as styling, I wouldn't discount displaying shoes - your good shoes - as a room's accessory. I've seen photos on pinterest that had shoes displayed on a shelf, in a bookcase, wherever there was space. I might just have to take a cue from this idea as well.

make it pretty: medicine cabinet

photo and styling by change of scenery

tip: This is more of an organization tip vs. a styling tip. When organizing your medicine cabinet, sort by like products first, routine second. Starting in the top left corner, place objects based on what you do first, second, third and last. For example, I wash my face, apply deodorant, take my vitamins and then brush my teeth.

make it pretty: furry friends

logo, photography and styling by Corrin Acome. Modeling by Lola.

tip: I personally love the way Lola blends into the background. The photo looks really crisp and clean with the focus on her face and expression. I mean, she is the absolute cutest.

For mine, I tried to create a landscape with still objects. I worked with the horizontal stripes, using the toys to extend the line from one side of the photo to the other.

tip: Follow the rule of threes. Anytime your displaying items, try clustering in three. It will fill the space without seeming too formal or cluttered.

make it pretty: sparkle

tip: Use sparkle to add some drama to any composition. To keep from being too feminine, pair with more rustic objects to balance out textures.

make it pretty: light

styling and photography by change of scenery

tip: Be cognizant of what your light will be shining off of. Brighten up a space with white canvases and metallic paint. Or add depth and movement to a space with plants. Mix textures to see what kind of shadows light will cast to finish the look.

tip: Use light to make your subject pop. Figure out where your focal point is and play with the light being in front of or behind your subject. You'll be surprised on the different tones that come out.
