golden globes outfit inspiration: cap sleeves 3 ways

The Golden Globes fashion was off the chain this year. Out of all the gorgeous silhouettes, colors and styles, what I was most inspired by the cap sleeve trend. Unlike the previous years, 2014 feels like the year of the bicep and I couldn't be more excited. Be sure to keep up on those arm dips, ladies!

Cozy cardigan goodness.

I love fashion almost as much as interior design. No, I'm lying. The love distribution is probably more 50/50. So to give a little shout out to my other styling crush, I'm kicking off each weekend with a little bit of wardrobe talk.

This week: the cardigan. LOVE me a good cardigan.

First off, let's all take a minute to reflect on the evolution of the cardigan. The way it separated itself away from the sweater set was huge. And the expanding past cable knit and varsity letters has improved this staple by leaps and bounds.

That said, one of the greatest things about a cardi is it's flexibility. It has the ability to add a layer of texture, color or pattern to any outfit while creating depth and dimension. It also can either dress up or dress down an outfit depending on your goal. Wool, cotton, cashmere or jersey, here are some great ideas for incorporating more of this little gem into your wardrobe lineup.

Alexa Chung and Madewell madness.

For those that like my FaceBook page, you already know what this post is going to be about. Alexa Chung. And Madewell.

Allow me to take you on a journey through my thought process.

First, Alexa Chung is by far my all-time, biggest style inspiration. Period. Simple makeup and hair paired with style combinations that look effortlessly pulled together, mix classic and edge and are complimentary to her shape. Summarized in three words: patterned, layered and leggy. Here are some of my fave looks to-date.

THEN, while reading my InStyle the other day I saw she was working with Madewell to create a line of clothing... OUT ON MY BIRTHDAY!

SO, I decided to cruise Madewell's site today only to discover their amazingly fantastical fall lookbook which - naturally - I just had to share. While not a huge fan of the styling (what's with the not ironed shirts and misaligned sweaters? C'mon!), I can definitely see it shining a ton of inspiration on my wardrobe and is making me kind of want to get suspenders! Again, all photos from Madewell's fall lookbook, here.

And, for those that haven't seen Alexa Chung's InStyle spread, go and buy the mag immediately. She is stunning and her clothing choices are unique and every bit her style.

love the calf-grazing skirt with tie up booties

loving the cropped pants (even though not ironed) and the oxford shoes

like the monochromatic (fix your shirt!) belted layers with
unexpected twist of the hiking boots

want - no NEED - this dress
cute cardi but why's it got to be all crooked?

fuchsia and yellow, such a strong yet warm color combo
also am going to need that bag, STAT.

suspender obsession beginning... now.
