outfit idea: edgy houndstooth.

Getting in the houndstooth spirit, I decided to put together a saucy little number incorporating the new-for-me print. While cruising on etsy, I found this ridiculous vintage Armani shell on etsy that just might be my first houndstooth purchase. 

Since the print is smaller and the shape pretty conservative (minus the crop), I wanted to spice it up a bit by adding some coated skinnies, leather and suede to the look. It's a hip-shifter for sure. 

tip: ALWAYS get structured clothing tailored. Too loose and you could look shapeless, too tight and you could look constrained. The benefit to wearing structured clothing is to flatter your figure, not distort it.

I think it's safe to say - houndstooth isn't just for the mature or prepster audiences anymore. Blown up, cleverly colored or paired with more masculine accessories, this once-dated print is making a serious comeback. Intrigued? Here's how to wear it. 

Pair with leather. Big or small, this print gets a modern makeover when paired with leather clothing. The key to making the look work is keep the garments simple, crisp and modern. Add a statement accessory and some leather booties to finish off the look.

Pump up the color. Sometimes this print can feel stuffy, serious and all business. Wearing a technicolored version of print gives the look a bit of whimsy and a lot of vibrancy. Pair with pastels on the opposite side of the color wheel, thin stripes or even some leopard to balance out the boldness.
