dollhouse appliance update.

I'm not going to lie, I was pretty unproductive this week. So unproductive that I only finished the shell of an oven and refrigerator for the I'm a Giant Dollhouse Challenge. Stainless steel, of course.

Since I'm not really a kitchen person, I wanted to keep the appliances basic yet functional. No 4 burner ranges or water dispensers here. The materials? Cardboard, Kroger Aluminum Foil and 28 gauge jewelry wire. I know, really high tech, right?

Here are some close ups of each appliance - opened and closed. I ended up gluing on some of the wire to make "hinges" so you can store and bake fake food as much as you'd like.

They're a little rough still, I know. Think of them as little works in progress. I plan to either paint or cover the insides so you don't see the ugly glue and wire. I also plan to add another layer of aluminum foil to the outside to cover the edges and make the pieces look less separated from each other.

Then, the magic detail happens. The handles will be long, modern and made of these.

There will be little teeny burners, probably fake magnets and, depending on the time, fake food. For the stove, I like the cute ones with big knobs and giant burner covers. For the fridge, I'm thinking simple and sleek. Heck, maybe I'll even turn it upside down. We'll see.

Sorry for the lack of progress made - it's been a little bit of a rough week at work and my laziness got the best of me. Luckily, with the holiday coming up, I'll have some time off so I can bust out some more midget furnishings for your viewing pleasure.

  1. I like the basic models. I have a wood burning range for my kitchen but they do need a fridge. I'm thinking of a different covering though.

  2. Thanks Kristin,
Should I go for colored appliances? Would be a different way to bring in color to the space...

  3. I'm impressed! Are you going to include all those knobs on your stove too?

  4. You betcha! I found a couple of other models since I posted that look a little simpler but I'm thinking big knobs are definitely a must!

  5. I like the shiny in a modern kitchen, but my is more old farm/hippie grown old style. I can see where going with color would bring in... color. The more I think about it the more I like the idea. I painted a real fridge bright yellow once, maybe I'll bring that back.
